Digital-first Manga Sale, Part 2: Saint Young Men + 50 series up to 50% off!

As mentioned last week, Kodansha Comics has published over 100 digital-first series and to help get you into those manga gems in our digital library, we’re hosting our two-fisted Digital-first Manga Sale, where all volumes of selected series are up to 50% off at our digital retail partners: BookWalker, comiXology, Google Play, Kindle, and nook. (Sale ends June 24.)

What are “digital-firsts”?

• First are the true “digital-firsts”—the ones that come out first digitally, then become available in print as well. Tokyo Tarareba Girls,The Quintessential Quintuplets,  Grand Blue Dreaming, and Boarding School Juliet all started out this way—and we’ve got several more exciting announcements to come in the months ahead!

If it’s not in print yet, tell us what you like! You can fill out this form to give us your feedback. The road to getting a book licensed in print can be a long and winding one, and we can’t always reply to requests directly, but we are listening—and we really do love and appreciate your opinions, no matter how crazy! 

• Then, for those of you who gotta stay exactly up to date, there’s our simulpubs, which are chapters from selected series published the same day they come out in Japan: you can read simulpubs on Crunchyroll and comiXology.

• Finally, digital-firsts allows us to bring back some of our favorite out-of-print titles—like BECK, Initial D, Rave Master, Dragon Head, Peach Girl, MARS, and You’re My Pet—that might not otherwise be available!

Digital-first manga up to 50% off thru 4/17; Domestic Girlfriend, GTO releasing 4/11

Update April 11: Kodansha Comics announced today it is continuing to expand its growing list of well-received digital-first manga titles with the series debuts of GTO Paradise Lost, Toru Fujisawa’s sequel to his beloved manga classic Great Teacher Onizuka, and Domestic Girlfriend (Japanese title Domestic na kanojo), Kei Sasuga’s love-triangle romancer that’s a top requested title by Western fans—and a bestseller in Japan. Volume 1s of both titles go on sale today April 11 on all of Kodansha’s digital retail channels.

New digital manga for Valentine’s Day: Akiko Higashimura’s Tokyo Tarareba Girls, Chihayafuru, and A Springtime with Ninjas

2017 marches on with more digital manga debuts! (See last month's big announcement.)

On February 14th, rising manga star Akiko Higashimura follows up her best-selling Princess Jellyfish with the hilarious Tokyo Tarareba Girls, where Higashimura once again sharpens her razor wit on the lives of young women in the big city. This time she hones in on one single thirtysomething and her dystopian dating problems—”One day I woke up and I was 33”—just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Along with being one of the most requested titles in Kodansha Comics’s history, Princess Jellyfish was a regular on The New York Times Manga Best Seller list and was named by the New York Public Library as one of its “50 Best Books for Teens” and by Amazon as one of the “Best Comics and Graphic Novels of 2016.” Read our interview with Akiko Higashimura here.

 

Also going on sale February 14th is the long-awaited, much-demanded debut of Yuki Suetsugu’s Chiyahafuru, the story of adolescent lives and emotions playing out against the high drama of karuta—traditional Japanese card-playing.
